Here at The
Bentall Centre we’re always on the look out for exciting and worthwhile events
happening in the Kingston
area.
The Kingston Royals Boat Club is
holding a couple of dragon boat beginner days in March and April and will be a
great day out. Give this sport a go and
you could end up finding a new hobby for yourself!
Dragon boating
received royal endorsement from Prince William and Kate during their royal tour
of Canada
and the Kingston Royals selected to participate in the upcoming Thames
Diamond Jubilee Pageant.
So what exactly
is dragon boating? Well it involves up
to 20 male and female paddlers in the same 40-foot boat and it originated in China over 2000
years ago. Over time it has grown to
become the second largest team sport in the world and is a great way to keep
fit, socialise and have fun.
If you fancy
joining in with this popular sport then pop down to The Royal Canoe Club and
give it a go! The morning’s session will
include
paddling technique and a safety briefing off the water before grabbing a paddle
and joining the team for a fun but active session out on the Thames.
The switch on of the Christmas Lights at The Bentall Centre was a huge success, with many happy young shoppers meeting their heroes on the night.
The Christmas fun started early at The Bentall Centre with EUTV covering the event. You can see the video below, it's well worth a look capturing the excitement of the night and packed with cute interviews.
The kids got to meey their heroes including Superman, Batman, the Yellow Power Ranger, Captain Jack, a Ghostbuster and many more! One young boy was happy to meet his favourite hero....Santa.
It was an important night for fundraising too with collections for The Princess Alice Hospice (There were free photo's of children with a superhero available on the night with just the request of a donation for the photo, courtesy of Snappy Snaps in Union Street) and of course, Momentum.
If you want to get in the festive mood, check out the video. It will warm your heart, promise! Exciting stuff.
If you’ve ever wanted to meet Darth Vader then head to Waterstone’s in Kingston this November to make your dream become reality!
The store will be hosting a book signing event of his autobiography ‘Straight From The Force’s Mouth’ by the one and only David Prowse who is best known for playing the role of Darth Vader in the original Star Wars Trilogy.
This is a fantastic opportunity for fans of the actor and films so don’t miss out!
Prowse will be signing copies of his autobiography on Saturday 12th November 2011 at 11am so arrive early to avoid disappointment. He’ll even be accompanied by a squad of stormtroopers!
If you’re
looking for some fun and exciting activities to do this October with your
family then head to Kingston. There is so much happening in the area you
won’t want to miss out!
Here's two really great activities in Kingston October & November 2011. You could even
plan a sneaky day out to The Bentall Centre to do some shopping…
RHS Garden Wisley is hosting tree themed activities this October half
term which takes place from the 24th to the 30th.
It is a perfect opportunity to spend time
with your family and keep the kids entertained.
There is a range of different classes, workshops, tree climbing and
displays taking place – it’s guaranteed to be an amazing week!
Your little ones can take part in natural art classes allowing them to
unleash their creativity using natural materials to create beautiful sculptures
in the Arboretum or plant an acorn that you can watch grow in your own garden.
The ‘Waking the Forest’
musical workshops will be great fun and is an exciting rhythm based activity
that helps recreate the atmosphere of the forest. As Halloween is fast approaching why not make
a spooky spider finger puppet which you can show to your family and friends
afterwards.
For the more adventurous then there are plenty of activities to do as
well! If you’re aged 7 to 12 years old
then you can climb a special tree using harnesses and pulleys. Be brave and rise to the challenge – it will

Lifeboat
crew members from Chiswick and Teddington RNLI gathered at The Bentall Centre
in Kingston on
SOS Day (the lifeboat charity’s biggest annual fundraising day) for a 32-hour
fundraiser!
The group was aiming to
cycle the equivalent of 768 miles, the distance between the RNLI’s most
northerly and southerly lifeboat stations - Aith, in Scotland,
and St Helier in Jersey using cycling
machines.
They
ended up doubling their original target though cycling an amazing total of
1,199 miles throughout Friday day and night and until closing time on Saturday.
This is one video guaranteed to make you smile, a real uplifter!
The Surbiton Escalator Choral Society's first performance was held in The Bentall Centre on Thursday 27th January 2011. It was a fascinating display and has been caught on camera for you to enjoy.
A role reversal - Teddington’s lifeboat crew members are now asking YOU to help.
SOS day is the RNLI's most important fund raising day. The Teddington crew always set themselves hard targets to raise money - last year they rowed for 24 hours and raised £13,000.
This year's SOS day takes place at The Bentall Centre and the challenge could be a real pain in the bum for the brave crew - a 32-hour non-stop fundraiser, cycling the total distance between the UKs most northern and southern lifeboat stations.
